Notable EHS Events

Despite ICL's continued efforts to reduce work accidents at its sites, in June 2020 (June 4 and 25) two fatal events occurred involving contractor workers at ICL Iberpotash’s Vilafruns mine in Spain.

In response to the events, mining activities at this site were halted ahead of schedule. These fatal events are currently under investigation. A deep internal learning process was performed, and work plans were updated.

ICL Iberia (Iberpotash) is taking further corrective actions, implementing a proactive approach, including enhanced safety training of relevant personnel; preparing emergency reaction measures for safe production; and enhanced hazard recognition and prevention practices.

Some of ICL’s products are potentially harmful to the environment and the health and safety of the public as a result of the effluents, air emissions and waste that are generated during their production, as well as at other stages of the products’ life cycle.

As part of its ICL EHS&S policy, the Company engages in initiatives aimed at reducing its environmental impact. The efforts are taken in multiple dimensions, such as the responsible use of natural resources, increasing circularity and energy efficiency, reducing air pollution and waste, and responsible use and ‘end of life’ of ICL products. The Company also acts to promote an ongoing, honest and transparent dialogue with its stakeholders.

Environmental, safety, health and security performance are at the core of ICL’s values

In addition, ICL has also implemented internal standards and management systems for environmental responsibility and performance.

ICL’s direct impact is from its operations. The reported performance data includes all production sites with operational control. Information regarding biodiversity and mining is relevant to five of ICL’s mining sites. Read more on ICL’s products and solutions. This management approach is relevant to all material environmental topics.
