ICL employees from the Carondelet Plant, Webster Groves Technical Center and St. Louis HQ sites teamed up to make the neighborhood surrounding the Carondelet Plant a little greener. The tree planting event focused on keeping the community greener and supporting urban reforestation efforts in the St. Louis region.
Community Foresters from Forest Relief of Missouri gave employees a crash course in proper tree planting. Employees dug, planted, mulched and watered dozens of trees that will provide shade and beauty for all those that enjoy these parks.
Scientists from Webster Groves Technical Center and employees from other ICL St. Louis locations team up to refurbish Greenwood Cemetery.
Greenwood Cemetery was the first commercial non-sectarian cemetery for African Americans in the St Louis metropolitan area. Organized in 1874 to serve the needs of the growing black population of post-civil war St. Louis and St. Louis County, it has no large corporation supporting it to maintain and keep it clean and so the cemetery has fallen into decline. This historical black cemetery holds over 50,000 African Americans.
ICL volunteers worked all afternoon to tend to the weeds and brush, cut grass and mend fences. All agreed that it was an honor and the least they could do to simply remember and honor the sacrifices and struggles of our post-civil war St. Louis African Americans.
ICL regularly partners with the American Red Cross to support disaster and fire relief efforts throughout the United States.
In October and November 2020, ICL partnered with the Red Cross by holding a ‘Sleeves Up’ blood drive campaign at all ICL locations across the United States. ICL Gallipolis Ferry also held an onsite blood drive for employees at the plant. In total, ICL donated over 50 pints of blood for patients in need.
In early October, ICL Americas partnered with Litterati, a new company and app that promotes trash cleanup by organizations and citizens globally. ICL launched the pilot during our annual ESG Week. The Litterati Challenge yielded a total of over 5,000 pieces of trash collected. Congratulations to the entire team for leading the way in sustainability and promoting a healthy environment for all.

The ICL Industrial Products Team in Tarrytown, NY, teamed up in support of World Autism Day. During this special day, the international community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world are lit in blue in recognition of people living with autism. Autism-friendly events and educational activities occur to increase understanding and acceptance and foster worldwide support. The team held a socially distanced walk and a virtual walk in a local park this year in support of Autism Speaks. In total, the site collected $1,600.00 to support the organization. Congratulations to the entire team for their support.
The Carondelet, MO, plant regularly supports the YMCA near to the plant. This year, they completed painting projects in the facility. The team also collected and donated school supplies and backpacks for children in need and adopted 8 children through the YMCA’s Angel Tree program with gifts for the holidays. In addition, they held a food drive during ICL ESG week collecting over 850 food items for donation to the local food bank. The team also collected and assembled hygiene kits for St. Patrick Center for homeless outreach programs.
ICL LAWRENCE PLANT SUPPORTS THE UNITED WAY OF DOUGLAS COUNTY THROUGH ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
The ICL Lawrence Plant supports the United Way of Douglas County with its annual fundraising campaign. ICL Lawrence has supported the Douglas County United Way for over 20 years because the plant is located in the heart of Douglas County and is invested in supporting organizations that aid the residents in the community. The Douglas County United Way directs donations to local not-for-profit organizations focused on improving the areas education, health and financial stability. Lawrence employees supported the United Way with personal donations. These donations fund programs to aid school readiness, make food accessible for all and to provide healthcare coverage for preventative care.
ICL U.S.A LAWRENCE’s SUPPORT FOR THE ANNUAL KAW VALLEY EAGLES DAY
Each year, the ICL Lawrence Plant in Kansas sponsors a local event called the “Kaw Valley Eagles Day.” It is sponsored by the Jayhawk chapter of the Audubon Society.
This annual educational event includes presentations about snakes, red tailed hawks, bald eagles and more. There are also other interactive activities for the kids, including dissecting a real owl pellet. During this event, the community has various opportunities to visit different sites near the Clinton Lake or near the downtown area for Eagle Watching. ICL partnered with The Home Depot to provide wooden Eagles. ICL volunteers assisted children in building the eagles.
ICL LAWRENCE TEAMS UP WITH JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT
ICL Lawrence has been involved in Junior Achievement (JA) in Lawrence, Kansas for over 15 years. Due to the pandemic ICL employees were unable to volunteer to teach at the Woodlawn School in North Lawrence, as we have in the past, but employees held a fundraiser this year to donate money to the Junior Achievement program.
ICL LAWRENCE WORKS TO IMPROVE THE NORTH LAWRENCE COMMUNITY
ICL Lawrence dedicated a day to pick-up trash in the local community, collecting numerous bags. In addition to picking up trash, we also painted benches in our area. In the summer of 2020, the elementary school was vandalized, so ICL employees worked to clean up and redo the koi pond and butterfly garden at Woodlawn Elementary, so that the community, not just the children, can enjoy these areas.

ICL-IP Gallipolis Ferry is an active and involved Partner in Education with the Beale Elementary School located within close-proximity of the GF site. Beale enrolls about 255 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.
ICL has supported Beale students, staff, and community in a wide variety of ways over the years. These include helping with landscaping, providing reflective tape for student backpacks and clothing as they wait for buses, purchasing supplies for shelter-in-place events and donating items for fundraisers. ICL employees have also donated food for Beale’s backpack program which provides food for children who may not have food otherwise on weekends. This year, the team completed a revamp of the flower beds at the school.
Often, ICL employees volunteer as judges for school contests and school activities such as Career Days, Open Houses, and Family Fun Days at the school.
ICL promotes safety awareness at Beale Elementary by sponsoring a safety poster contest each year, most recently in conjunction with ICL’s Safety Week. Students submit safety posters on a safety topic of their choice and GF displays posters in the hallway of the administration building during Safety Week. ICL then purchases books from the school’s book fair for the winners, who are also selected by ICL employees.
ICL GF values its strong relationship with the local elementary school. Giving back to the community is very important to ICL GF and investing in the local children is one of its most important and treasured outreach efforts.
Employees regularly support the Low Country Food Bank and this year was no exception through volunteering to box food, as well as food and monetary donations.
In 2020, ICL Americas launched celebrations of International Women’s Day, on Monday, March 9. This year’s theme, #EachforEqual, focused on promoting gender equity at ICL and in the world.
Each month, ICL recognized and educated employees on many different Diversity and Inclusion topics. The highlight of the year was our first ever virtual Diversity Inclusion and Belonging Experience in the United States. In September 2020, our week focused on education and discussion around improving Racial Equity within ICL and the greater world. In November 2020, ICL Brazil also held a Diversity Week.
